Currently, Bibles for the World oversees schools in two different locations in India. The majority of our schools are located in the Northeast India region. Our other schools, which focus on the Dalits, are located in Chingrawli, on the outskirts of New Delhi.
Northeast India
Northeast India is separated from the rest of India by Bangladesh, and their cultures are very distinct. Over 80% of mainland India follows Hinduism and most of their foods, traditions, and culture is based on that religion. Northeast India however, has become predominately Christian over the last several decades. Because they are not as heavily influenced by Hinduism, their food, dress, and lifestyle is very different. The people can trace their ancestry back to East Asia and their appearance is often more similar to East Asia than to the rest of India. Also, much of the NE population continues to live a tribal lifestyle which greatly influences everyday life. The result is a rich blend that produces a beautiful culture unique to this small area of the world.
New Delhi Area Schools
In the caste system that dominates mainland India, the Dalits are the lowest group. There is strong discrimination and prejudice against the Dalits. They are sometimes called The Untouchables and are outcasts in their society. Also, the families of these children often times must resort to begging for their basic needs and therefore move around quite often trying to survive. We have opened these schools with the purpose of giving the children of this particular caste a chance for a Godly education. Through the children, we also have a chance to minister to the family. Our prayer is that through a Godly, Christian education, we can help these children break out of the cycle of bondage for a better future.
